I have been practicing Pilates since 2011 and I completed my training course in Santa Monica, CA through the Joseph Pilates Technique Institute will Jill Cassidy in 2014.
I was introduced to Pilates through my physical therapists after being ejected from a vehicle during a bad accident. Once my physical therapy was completed, I needed something that could help me continue to strengthen my core, spine, and body awareness. Once I started Pilates I found that it not only helped with recovering from the car accident, but also taught me how to control my body after years of club and school activities. Growing up I was very active, mostly with cheer and dance. Without Pilates I don't think I would be able to be as active as I am today (nothing beats a nice hike with my dog). My passion for Pilates stems from how much it has changed my life, I love sharing it with others!
I have been practicing Pilates since 2000, received my Pilates training through the PhysicalMind Institute in 2007, and have been teaching barre since 2008. I have been attending the Pilates on Tour Rehab Summit continuing education conference every year since 2011. I also attended the university of South Florida participating in their Modern Dance and Theatre Program. I have over 3 decades of experience in the fitness industry as well as being a corporate trainer for 15 years. I have a passion for teaching principally Pilates.
I am eager to share my passion with clients to suit their needs, issues and goals. I strive to provide each client with challenging yet fun Pilates and barre workout sessions that will leave them feeling invigorated and refreshed. Pilates is a way of life for me and I follow the philosophy from Joseph Pilates. It is an education in body awareness during class as well as after, in addition to being an excellent teaching method on how to train your mind, build symmetry and coordination in the body.
I was first introduced to Reformer Pilates in 1994 at a health spa in Tucson. As a professional bowler, I used resistance and stretching - Pilates incorporated both! I wanted to open a Pilates studio, but was the owner of Zahn's Tempe Bowl. In 2008, I was a client at a Pilates studio that closed and I jumped at the chance to reopen it. Pilates Tempe was born! My business experience is extensive. I owned and operated a bowling center, consulted with other owners, and created a national high school bowling program as the National Dir. of High School Bowling. I'm not shy about speaking to people due to my years a a motivational speaker, Color Analysis for the Ladies Pro Bowlers Tour on ESPN, and Asst. Dir. of Admissions at a college in Philadelphia.
I knew I loved teaching from my years as a Bowling Coach and my degree from Temple University. I had found my new career, which meant mat & apparatus teacher training, followed by barre and LifeStretch®. I'm at my happiest when teaching and making clients say "RIBBIT!"
In high school, I was a gymnast and cheerleader, and then my love of physical fitness led me to aerobics, running, skiing, and hiking. Later in life, I began having pain in both hips which led to four years of chronic, debilitating pain. During that time, I desperately searched for a form of exercise that allowed me to move my body without causing additional pain. I finally discovered Pilates!
I was diagnosed with a congenital deformity in both hips and underwent complete replacement. Following the surgeries and physical therapy, I convinced my doctor to let me finish my rehabilitation at Pilates Tempe. Throughout this time, I gained a deep appreciation and passion for the mind and body benefits that Pilates offers. I was inspired to teach Pilates so that I could share my experience and passion with others. I now teach Mat and Reformer Pilates, as well as Burn at the Barre®.
I am an Arizona native with a four-year background in nutrition planning and two years as a professional chef. I majored in Culinology® (the combination of food science and culinary arts) and minored in marketing at SMSU.
When my mom was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, I became her caretaker and discovered the impact that a natural lifestyle had on preventing and treating health conditions. I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to nutritional education and creating healthful, delicious food for everyone. I love working with clients of all backgrounds and inspiring people to eat right and enjoy good food! I stay active outdoors and taking Pilates classes has helped me recover from plantar fasciitis and back pain. I'm so grateful to be a part of the Pilates Tempe family and to have the opportunity to share my passion!
I come from an active background and was always involved in sports, having swam competitively through college. The strength and function of the body was fascinating to me, so after receiving NSCA certification, I became a personal trainer as I earned my B.S. in Kinesiology from ASU.
When I tore my ACL, it was hard on me because it challenged the confidence I had in my athletic ability, and threatened all the activities that I love. Following physical therapy, I discovered Pilates as a way to continue rehabilitation and prevent further injury. After discovering the sense of balance and proprioception that Pilates created and the strength it could build, I became a teacher. I enjoy helping people learn about their bodies, overcome physical limitations and gain physical strength for sports and in their daily lives.
I discovered the incredible benefits of Pilates after years of living with a misaligned pelvis cause by a broken sacrum. Amazed by the results, I grew passionate about sharing my success and started Power Pilates training in 2007. Healthy living and wellness have always been a priority in my life and my passion is to share that with others.
I am married and have two active teenage boys. I've always enjoyed physical fitness and stay active by hiking, biking, running, walking, yoga and Pilates. I love teaching because assisting clients in achieving their fitness/wellness goals is the most rewarding gift of all! My approach to Pilates is exercise and body work as a healing, dynamic workout. On a daily basis I am inspired by the changes I see in my clients' bodies and feel so grateful to share my passion of Pilates with all my wonderful clients!
I have been teaching TRX since March 2014 and teaching Pilates since February 2015. My Pilates training was completed through Pilates Sports Center.
I was introduced to Pilates about five years ago in 2011 by Kris Zahn and discovered it to be a fun and invigorating workout. If I could reduce Pilates practice to just one key element, it would be personal mental engagement while performing each exercise. My previous fitness background includes powerlifting, football, and martial arts. My other education background includes study in Bio-Engineering along the way to earning a PhD in Electrical Engineering.
I began teaching dance fitness in 2009 and have taught Bollywood, hula hooping, Pilates, Barre, LifeStretch®, and more.
In 2010, I also began working part time at the front desk of a Pilates studio where I learned that Pilates has equipment. I'd only ever done mat Pilates at big gyms or videos at home. As I took classes and learned about the teacher training program, I was hooked. The way my teachers could see imbalances and help me feel better seemed magical, and I wanted to learn how to do that also!
I now love teaching Pilates, Barre, and LifeStretch® at Pilates Tempe and hope to keep learning and sharing new things in class.
